She has gotten no name from whatever strange trainer has caught her - no, actually, freed her from the safari zone, but that doesn't mean that the Torchic would care that much about it. There is only so much time she has before the trainer might catch up on that she ran away (was literally left behind in the care of another) and there is just so much ... emotions inside.[break]

she had been expecting to be put in the care of another. it didn't happen often, but it had enough that she knew what to expect.

or she thought she did, anyways. there was always an outlier, though, and this time it came in the form of a torchic. a very angry torchic. an extremely angry torchic, apparently, who demands to fight her without any other warning beyond making eye contact.

"what?" seasalt is sure the surprise on her face is obvious, and she blinks at the offending fire type for a moment or two, trying to wrap her head around how this would be normal in any world. "no?"

The Torchic is quick to assume battle stance - hopping from one foot to another as it feints kicks every now and then to intimidate the already intimidated Marill even further. "You heard me right!" she shouts angrily, standing still for a moment as she paws her right claws on the ground, eyeing the other quite critically. She escaped the Safari Zone for this, after all! It's only right that-[break]

Shock runs over the Torchic's face before she narrows her eyes, circling the Marill like a hunter would its prey, like a ritual that is written down nowhere at all. "Why not? Am I not worthy of being battled! I'll show you-!" And she shoots a Flamethrower vertically into the air, quite impressive for such a small bird. Quite an impressive amount of anger in one tiny body.

it seems like seasalt's confusion only serves to better anger the torchic standing in front of her, from the way it hops from one foot to the other in some pre-battle tactic. completely at a loss of what to do, she risks a glance at the entrance of the center, hoping her trainer- or someone else- will come to the rescue.

but she's alone, and the torchic, consistently angry, only grows offended at her denial before releasing a flamethrower vertically into the air. twisting to keep an eye on the bird pokemon, seasalt hopes for a split-second savior in the next few seconds. when one doesn't come, she makes up her mind.

as much as she dislikes it, she's going to have to handle this on her own.

"fine. i'll fight you." it's a resigned sigh, and as soon as the words leave her, she's aiming a bubble beam at the red bird pokemon. the sooner she wins this, the sooner she can be left alone to relax, right? right.

It seems like all her resolve isn't enough because she is all but blasted away by the bubbles that emerge from the other's attack, pushed back by a few steps and eventually landing on her butt, quite dizzily. had she gone too far? from the way the torchic had been completely blown away, seasalt is pretty sure that's the definition of going too far. she hadn't meant to actually hurt the bird pokemon, but from the way the fire type falls, it seems that her intent hadn't worked out.

now she does feel like crying. at the pokemon's question, she pauses, trying to get her voice under control before she answers. it only works a little, because as soon as she starts to speak, the guilt sets in full force again. "i'm not sure. i really didn't mean to."

seasalt inhales again, and it may have been a sigh or something like it were it not for how strangled it sounded, and when she speaks up again her voice is a borderline wail as she fights back tears. "i'm really, really sorry!"

Like a candle light extinguished by any amount of water, the Torchic looks utterly defeated, having to kneel a bit and support herself on her wings a little. This power ... the brawls at the place she managed to escape from are truly nothing compared to the might of this one ...! What ... what marvellous strength ...! And this humbleness, this expression of guilt over something that should be of no concern to the other, that this stranger takes so kindly to her victory and even worries about this measly loser who could do nothing ...[break]

The Torchic feels tears welling up as she shakes her head vigorously, standing up at long last again as she puts a feet down, remarking sincerely, "no! Don't be sorry, I deserve it! You are - really, really too kind. How can I ever repay you-?"
